Luke Mossey has topped the first session of the Snetterton test as defending Bennetts British Superbike champion Shane Byrne has been transported to hospital after an early fall.
A number of BSB teams are testing at the Norfolk circuit, which hosts the fourth round of the 2018 championship next month, with JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Mossey leading the early times with a 1m 49.889s to take top spot ahead of Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty by just 0.050s.
Be Wiser Ducati’s Byrne completed just two laps before his session was ended by an off at Palmer which caused a 15-minute red flag so the six-time BSB champion could be safely treated trackside. BSB has confirmed Byrne was taken to the medical centre for further examinations before being transported to hospital by ambulance .
BSB championship leader Leon Haslam ended the opening session in third spot ahead of early title contender Bradley Ray on the Buildbase Suzuki as his teammate Richard Cooper rounded out the top five after his late lap pushed 2015 BSB champion Josh Brookes down to sixth place.
Tarran Mackenzie place his McAMS Yamaha in seventh ahead of top Superstock 1000 rider Keith Farmer as Smiths Racing BMW’s Sylvain Barrier and OMG Suzuki’s Gino Rea completed the top ten.
