Chaz Davies is solely focused on extending his impressive wins streak at Imola in the World Superbike championship but is bracing for stronger competition from his rivals this weekend.
Davies has stormed to four consecutive victories at the Italian track, Ducati’s home round, over the past two years and is eager to claw back at Jonathan Rea’s points advantage which opened up to 30 points after the Assen round.
The Aruba.it Racing Ducati rider concedes he surpassed expectations for the past two years at Imola and is aware he’ll need to keep up his winning run to apply pressure on defending champion Rea.
“Imola is a special place and we’ve been particularly competitive there in the past two years, even going above our expectations,” Davies said. “It’s just been one of those circuits where we’ve been able to get into a good rhythm quite fast.
“The track itself has some hard-braking areas that suit my style, and I’ve always been very motivated since we’ve been surrounded by all the Ducati people and fans, who have so much passion.
“But nothing stands still in racing, so we need to keep our head down and be prepared for a battle, as always.”
Imola has a knack of providing double victories in World Superbikes with seven of the past eight years hosting double wins including Davies at the last two occasions. Kawasaki duo Tom Sykes (2013) and Jonathan Rea (2014 and 2015) are the other active riders to secure doubles at the Italian circuit.
